THE HOUSE OF USHER
Reincarnation (Single)
After more than two decades in music, The House Of Usher has made a prominent name for itself in the gothic rock circuit. In spite of the numerous line-up changes, the German band has known to retain its original essence over the years. Striving to find an overall sound and a unique emotional language for each release, they have really earned their reputation. True to that philosophy, the band shows a slightly renewed style through the foretaste of their forthcoming album "Inauguration". The new 7" Single "Reincarnation", lives up to its title offering more vigorous, shimmery and flown sounds in comparison with its last album "Pandora's Box". However, one could say that THOU's spirit remains incorruptible in its new flesh.
The a-side track "Reincarnation" gives the listener a clear statement of what gothic rock might be. An evocative pray sung from a minaret and a haunting melody blown on an arab instrument, throw the song to the Eastern winds. This cinematic opening sets an oriental timbre that pulls the listener in mind, body and soul. Then, the track enters into a hook-laden pace driving by an avalanche of drums, Mission-esque massive string arrangements, epic guitar sounds and pulsating bass lines. Jörg Kleudgen's unmistakable vocals hover the sonic walls while crying out for a return to life, supported by delightful and inspiring female choruses. Taken together all these elements, we have an over eight minute suite of epic, ancient drama which more than justifies the purchase of the single.
Upon the b-side, we find the windswept ballad I Won't Let It End. Previously performed live in the recent times, the studio version has a warmer glow. Jörg voice rides sways and swells of synth, shimmering chords and marching drums, resulting in a riveting climax, almost symphonic, that bears close resemblance to some selected anthems from the 80s. A misty-eyed stare over nostalgic terrains which is perfect as a golden clasp for the single.
In addition, a special digital download will be released simultaneously: the first chapter from a short story written by singer Jörg himself, which is recited by Mozart (Umbra Et Imago) in German. "The Tragic Tale Of Tantalus Crane" is the story of a wizard's pupil who sees his master die. He is sent to a distant town to find a house in which he is expected by thousands of dead animals and a dead man sitting at a table with a glas of redwine in front of him. This is where the tale ends and the forthcoming album "Inauguration" will begin...
In short, "Reincarnation" is a breathtaking gothic rock piece which creates a indelible impression. You will be swallowed in a poetical evocation ruled by numerous strings, throbbing percussion and memorable chorus.
The songs featured in this single has been written by The House Of Usher, mixed, produced and mastered by the band's guitarist Tom O'Connell. Also Lars Kappeler (Sweet Ermengarde) has recorded drums and bass-guitars.
